The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) is a US law designed to prevent US taxpayers from concealing their overseas investments from the Internal Revenue Service. It came in to force on 1st July 2014. FATCA imposes a 30% withholding tax on certain payments of US source income if counterparties are not FATCA compliant.
